Are you a veteran and want to transfer your military skills to the civilian workforce? Did you know that you may qualify for veteran college benefits? CyberTex is one of the top three VA-approved institutes for the VRRAP program in Austin and Killeen. We can offer the Veteran Rapid Retraining Assistance Program (VRRAP) to students that qualify. As a VRRAP recipient, you could be eligible for up to 12 months of tuition and fees, and a monthly housing allowance based on Post/911 GI Bill rates.
Do I Qualify for VRRAP College Benefits?
There are some qualifications for those applying for the VRRAP college benefits. According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, you must meet all the requirements below:
- You’re at least 22 years old, but not older than 66, and
- You’re unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
- You’re not rated as totally disabled because you can’t work, and
- You’re not enrolled in a federal or state jobs program
VRRAP covers education and training programs approved under the GI Bill and Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC) that lead to high-demand jobs. The Department of Labor determines what’s considered a high-demand job for VRRAP. The following jobs are considered in high-demand and programs that CyberTex offers for those eligible for VRRAP college benefits:
Medical Assistant
For those military veterans that are interested in healthcare, becoming a medical assistant is a rewarding career that can be obtained in as little as 45 weeks, attending full-time. During this medical assistant program, you will learn the basics of both the clinical and administrative skills needed to work in a physician’s office or hospital. You will also be eligible for certification from the National Healthcareer Association in medical assisting, phlebotomy, and EKG administration.
Vocational Nursing
Another career for military veterans that are interested in healthcare is vocational nursing. As an entry-level vocational nurse, you will be responsible for non-critical patients in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. This program will even prepare you for the NCLEX-PN certification exam to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
Network Engineer
Do you have experience from the military in computers and networking? If so, consider becoming a network engineer in our 45-week program. The CyberTex training program will prepare you for 10+ certification exams from Microsoft, AWS, Cybersecurity and CompTIA certifications. CyberTex’s Network Engineer program graduates are eligible to apply for information technology jobs in private and government industries, educational and non-profit agencies.
Other Veteran College Benefits
If you aren’t eligible for the VRRAP college benefits, you may be eligible for some of our other veteran benefits. Whether you are active duty, a veteran or a spouse/dependent of a veteran, there are many college benefits for you. The following are some of the veteran college benefits offered at CyberTex:
Post 9/11 GI Bill – those eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill can apply for a maximum of 48 months of VA education benefits, not including Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits. You may be eligible for tuition, fees, money for housing, the cost of books and supplies and some money to help move from a rural area to go to school.
Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits – a benefit that is offered to military veterans with service-connected disability that limits their ability to work or prevents them from working. The Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits program helps veterans learn new skills, find a new job, start a business, get educational counseling, and return to a former job.
Montgomery GI Bill (Active Duty) – helps pay for education and training programs for those that have at least 2 years on active duty. The amount of money you receive under the Montgomery GI Bill depends on length of service, type of education program, category of program, and a few other criteria.
Montgomery GI Bill (Selected Reserve) – offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits for those serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marie Corps, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard or Air National Guard. Benefits are eligible to those that qualify.
