I like to think of certification like a driver’s license. You can be an experienced driver, and you can have all the skill in the world, but if you don’t get your driver’s license, you won’t be able to drive.
In the IT professional world, certification is akin to a driver’s license. Having a certification shows a prospective employer that you have training in that area. That’s important because many jobs, from entry-level jobs to overseeing networks, rely on the sets of skills that certification provides.
At Cybertex Institute of Technology, our Network Engineer program is designed for students to earn six crucial IT certifications. We cover A+, Security+, Linux+, Network+, and a pair of Microsoft certifications, MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) and MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Support).
We don’t just cover the material in class—we make sure that our students are ready to pass the certification exams. We prepare our students with practice questions similar to what they’ll encounter in the exams. When I teach, I make sure that the knowledge is current to the industry and on point for what students will find in their exams.
The course does more than that, of course: It prepares students for life beyond school, for the job hunt to come, and for moving from entry-level IT positions into more lucrative positions requiring experience. Because the class is just 45 weeks, students at Cybertex can start at the same time as students in other Austin-area IT programs but be on the job market faster.
