Are you a veteran of the armed forces? First, thank you for your service.

Did you know that the Veteran Affairs (VA) may pay for you to attend HVAC school? If you qualify for the GI Bill® and you enroll in a non-degree program at an approved school, the VA will help pay for tuition and offer money for books and supplies. And the good news is that both CyberTex campuses in Austin and Killeen are approved for GI Bill benefits. Military benefits and financial aid are available to those who qualify.

What are the Military Education Programs Available to CyberTex Students?

At CyberTex, we want to help veterans transition into civilian employment by identifying programs and VA benefits that help you find a career outside uniform services. These military education programs include:

  • Post 9/11 GI Bill®
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits
  • Montgomery GI Bill® (Active Duty)
  • Montgomery GI Bill® (Selected Reserve)
  • Dependents Educational Assistance
  • Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
  • Post-Vietnam Era Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

What are the Benefits for Veterans to Attend HVAC School?

In addition to the GI Bill®, there are many benefits for veterans to attend an HVAC school. These benefits include:

Affordable HVAC training with Veteran Benefits

If you are a veteran, you can get benefits for HVAC training through the GI Bill®. We know that education can be costly, but it can be more affordable with veteran benefits. The GI Bill® pays tuition benefit, books and supplies, and housing benefit for those that qualify. Contact our Financial aid staff and enquire whether you are eligible for veteran benefits.

HVAC Technicians are in Demand and Make a Healthy Salary

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texas has over 30,670 jobs available and reported HVAC Salary ranges across country that 90th percentile made over $ 82,630 by 2022 and average is $ $39.73 per hour. That means as an HVAC technician, you are in demand and will be well compensated for your expertise.

Green Awareness Technologies

At CyberTex, we believe in being eco-conscious. During our HVAC program, we focus on green awareness technology. We teach you about newer eco-friendly refrigerants to be more eco-conscious.

Did you know that F-gases are one the of the fastest growing contributors to climate change. They are used in refrigerators and air conditioners. The f-gases can leak during maintenance, but CyberTex wants to educate students about refrigerant alternatives like Greenfreeze. Greenpeace developed Greenfreeze, an alternative refrigerant that is now being included in many products coming from Europe, Asia, and South America. Climate change is important, and this is one opportunity that can help stop f-gases from leaking into the climate.

Hands-On Training

In addition to lectures, you will get hands-on training (450 lab hours) during the HVAC program at CyberTex. Our instructors guide you through real life scenarios and allow you to work with industry standard HVAC equipment. Before you know it, you will be ready to start working on real HVAC systems. This hands-on training will also help build your confidence when you start your apprenticeship in HVAC.

Why Transition from Military Service to HVAC?

There are many reasons to transition into HVAC as a civilian career. These reasons include:

Work Out of The Office

As a veteran, you may be used to working outside of an office, especially if you had responsibilities in the field. As an HVAC technician, you will spend most of your time at customer’s locations, fixing HVAC systems.

Work Autonomously

Although you may work within a group and have a supervisor, it is important for HVAC technicians to be self-starters and work autonomously. You will be at job sites and will need to work independently, using your independence skills learned during active duty to get the job done.

Performance Under Pressure

During your military service, you mastered the art of performance under pressure. This skill will be important as you start working as an HVAC technician. Customers will want quick results and you need to use your critical thinking skills to work under pressure

Discipline

Nothing is more important during military service than discipline. While in the military, you learned how to obey rules and follow a code of behavior. This translates well into the HVAC industry, as you will need to methodically review your work and exceed expectations of both customers and supervisors.
